In 1968 EMI Records ended the separate numbering systems they had for Capitol, Columbia, Decca, Deram, London, Parlophone, Stateside and Tamla-Motown and combined all the labels into a single unified numbering system which began at 8301. This presumably was done to avoid having duplicate numbers and Parlophone, at the time, in the low 8000's was the highest numbers being used.
